Remember my Mac desk
Window layouts that come back when the display does.
NextOrchard starter idea · August 4, 2026
The problem
Anyone who docks a MacBook already lives in two or three spatial languages: laptop on the sofa, studio display at the desk, Sidecar on a trip. Stage Manager and Spaces are close, but a display change still scatters the work. Power users rebuild the same desk by hand, every day.
The proposal
Let macOS snapshot a named desk — apps, window frames, Space assignments, and Stage Manager groups — and restore it when a display configuration returns. iCloud can sync the snapshots. A menu bar item and a Shortcut action would make this feel like a first-class Continuity feature, not a third-party window manager.
Who it helps
Hybrid workers, studio people, and anyone who already treats their Mac like a set of rooms.
